Yes, that’s right, we’re done filming and uploading to Youtube the full routine with the counts and the individual instructional videos of the Big Apple routine :)

As usual, you can access the individual instructional videos from the full routine by clicking on the annotations.

You can also check out the Big Apple routine danced by the Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers in the movie “Keep Punching”

Enjoy and feel free to leave comments and rate the videos…

Since so many people asked us for instructionnal videos of the Shim Sham filmed from the back, we’ve decided to make them :)

The Shim Sham danced to the music (T’aint What You Do by Jimmie Lunceford).

The Shim Sham danced to the music (Tuxedo Junction by Erskine Hawkins) with the counts.

Turns out that recording in a big dance studio with the built-in mic of the camera is not such a great idea when it comes to recording voices :(

You’ll have to wait for our own video of the Shim Sham with the counts, but in the meantime, you can check out this great video by Mandi Gould.

You’ll notice that she does some moves slightly differently than we do, that’s what’s so great about it, you can do it you own way :)

This is the structure of the Shim Sham and the list of the steps.

(R) = Right foot
(L) = Left foot

All the moves start on the 8

Depending on the version of the song the Shim Sham is danced to, there might be a bridge at this point before the second half (that’s the case in the Jimmie Lunceford version of “Tain’t what you do”)

The second half of the Shim Sham starts with repeating the first half but replacing the Full breaks with Freezes

That’s all folks for the Shim Sham!

From this point, dancers usually grab the person next to them and start dancing socially until the end of the song.

I hope this helps, feel free to tell me if some of the steps are not clear enough.

Have fun!
