No, the California Routine is not just 3 Swing Outs and a Cirle :)

Once again, we’ve decided to go with a real classic piece of the Swing community.

The California Routine was choreographed by Frankie Manning for the Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers. You can see an early version of the routine in the video Spirit Moves

We present here a version that we most often use when the occasion arises. It might vary from other versions that you may come across.

You’ll find individual instructional videos of the moves by clicking on the names during the video

What do you think of this video? Do you dance it differently? Feel free to send us feedback and to comment on the videos.

Turns out that recording in a big dance studio with the built-in mic of the camera is not such a great idea when it comes to recording voices :(

You’ll have to wait for our own video of the Shim Sham with the counts, but in the meantime, you can check out this great video by Mandi Gould.

You’ll notice that she does some moves slightly differently than we do, that’s what’s so great about it, you can do it you own way :)
